Who Will Follow In Wu's Footsteps?

MATCHROOM Sport are delighted to announce the group listings for the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championship.

The event, which will see 128 of the finest pool players from around the world compete at the Philippine International Convention Center in Metro Manila, begins on Saturday, November 4 with the final on Sunday, November 12.

There is a record prize fund of $400,000, including $100,000 for the winner, as the players look to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Wu Chia-ching of Chinese Taipei (pictured right celebrating clinching the title).

This year’s competition will be broadcast in an unprecedented 60-plus hours of live TV over the nine days of the event and promises to deliver its customary high-octane mix of drama, excitement and tension.

Promoters Matchroom Sport can announce the 32 x four-man groups to contest the opening stages of the competition, with the top two players advancing into the last 64 and the bottom two in each section being eliminated.

Each group is headed by one of 32 seeded players, with defending champion Wu Chia-ching taking the top spot of No.1 seed (Click here for the list of seeds).

The second player in each group comes from a second group of 32 seeded players although these players were not placed in any order of merit and were drawn randomly. The final two players were drawn randomly from geographical-based draw bags.
