More Than 100 Players In The Qualifiers
MORE than 100 players from 21 different countries have signed up to take part in the ten qualifying events to earn spots in the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championship.
The standard is very high as the field includes 14 players who have competed in the World Championship knock-out stages in previous years. Among these are Filipino Warren Kiamco (pictured right) and Hsia Hui-kai from Chinese Taipei, who both reached the last 32 in Kaohsiung in 2005.
Elsewhere, Kang Chin-chang (Chinese Taipei), Peter F Nielsen (Denmark), Leonardo Andam (Philippines) and Antonio Lining (Philippines) have all made the quarter-final stages of the World Championships in other years.
The first of the ten qualifying tournaments begins on Saturday, October 28 at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City, Philippines, with the winner of each event guaranteed their place in the main tournament.
Each of the players who do not win an event will be given points as to where they finish and the people with the two highest totals will take the 11th and 12th qualifying spots as well.
