Nien Wins Qualifier Two Place
NIEN Rong-chieh has become the second player to book a spot in the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championships after he won the latest qualifier.
The Chinese Taipei player (pictured right), who has never reached the final stages before, performed well to dominate the action as he only dropped 16 racks in six matches.
He began with a 7-4 victory against American Max Eberle and then white-washed Isamu Hara of Japan 7-0 in round two. Nien then defeated Filipino Jharome Pena 7-5, Abdullah Al Youssef of Kuwait 7-2 and Lee Van Corteza of the Philippines 7-1 in a one-sided semi-final.
That set up a clash against countryman Chien Chin-ju in the final after he had made the last phase with successes against Mike Takayama, Majeed Sultan (UAE), Ramilo Vita (Philippines), Tan Tiong Boon (Singapore) and John Salazar (Philippines.
The final ended 9-4 in Nien's favour and he will now line up in Group 25, alongside Alex Lely (Netherlands), Gabe Owen (USA) and Louis Condo (Australia).
