Owen Pulls Out As Rota Is Handed A Lifeline
FILIPINO Israel Rota has been handed a competition lifeline and becomes qualifier 14 after American Gabe Owen withdrew from the 2006 Philippines World Pool Championships.
Each player that won one of the ten qualifying tournaments was guaranteed a place in the main competition, as were the next three men who had the best record. However, if any further players decided to drop out then whoever had the fourth best record would take their place.
Owen has withdrawn from the event due to travel concerns and that opened the door for Rota (pictured right), who will now be making his debut in the most prestigious competition of the year.
He will play in group 14 and will be up against Alex Lely (Netherlands), Louis Condo (Australia) and Nien Rong-chih of Chinese Taipei, who won the second qualifier earlier in the week.
